Hugo McCormick, Honorary
Secretary of the Glens Angling Club, seen here
presenting a
cheque for £1000 to Maria Small, who is a representative
of The Glens & Larne District, Macmillan Trust.
The family of the late
Donald MacRea, Glenarm Road, Larne donated all his
fishing equipment to the Glens Angling Club.
Donald, a member of the
Glens Angling Club for many years and accomplished fresh
water angler having fished on many of the Northern
Ireland Rivers.
The equipment was sold
to members of The Glens Angling Club and many for their
own use. Eventually the sum of a £1000 was raised.
It was the wish of the
MacRea family to have all the proceeds be donated to
this very worthy charity.
Brief history of the
Glens Angling Club
The Club was formed back
in 1956, it covers the 3 Glens rivers: Glendun,
Cushendall & Glenariff.
Currently the Club
membership is made up 110 adult members and 10 juniors.
Members are mostly local
from the Glens of Antrim area and the Greater Belfast
area, with some from as far away as Canada.
The Club's main
objectives are the improvement of the river habitat and
a programme of restocking for all the local rivers, in
an attempt to improve the numbers of wild Atlantic
Salmon and Sea Trout.
